(1) Wikis are similar to websites, with the bonus that design is taken care of and you just add content. Wikis are great for making and sharing content, for collaborative work on projects (to avoid redundant email), for having students participate in conversations with each other. See examples of classroom use at: http://biology-1.pbworks.com/, http://biology-2.pbworks.com/, http://metrology.pbworks.com/. If you go to those classroom wikis, keep in mind that they were developed over the course of a year and it takes time to create well!
(2) Wikis are also a good site for collaboration. I am setting up a Science Olympics wiki with another teacher (and more colleagues soon); the site looks "rough" but it is the location of collaboration. By turning on "update ...
